Daily Breeze 2010 Pioneer League Preview

The Pioneer League came down to a tight race last season between Torrance, South Torrance and North Torrance. Torrance edged North for the title, and all three teams reached the playoffs and won at least a wild-card match. But each team lost key players, including Lindsay Guardado (Torrance), Jessica Ly (South) and Bea Palileo (North), and each has a big challenge ahead to match last year's performance.

Joanne Bae, Eva Ma, Lindsay Song, Aria Dodo, Stacy Kim and Michelle Park lead the way for Torrance, which tries to repeat as league champs. Naomi Mori and Alyssa Areeprachapiran are among those who could give the team a boost.

The No. 1 doubles team of Sarah Baik-Tori Klunk leads the charge for North, who will miss Palileo's consistency at No. 1 singles. Among those looking to give North a lift will be Grace Baik, Irene Luo, Michele Yoshida, Ngoc Luu and Tiara Diaz.

For South Torrance, Gracie Davis returns and moves into the No. 1 singles role. Crystal Lin and Debbie Lee could give South a boost in singles. Doubles players Megan Yamasaki, Megan Shao, Momoko Kenada, Stephanie Kim, Sarah Yoo and Jackie Yoon all are capable of contributing for the Spartans.

El Segundo is looking to get back into a playoff race with Jessi Hamada, Michelle Liu and Lauren Villanueva leading the way. El Segundo could get a boost from emerging No. 1 doubles team Anne Nguyen-Zoe Orandle.
